Owner John Tresize said his company, which is working on two major projects in Albury, was planning to a purpose-built factory which would enable all work to be completed under cover.
Mr Tresize bought the land located on the northern edge of Mulwala from Corowa Shire, which will use the federal funding to install services, roads and drainge for the remainder of the estate in an attempt to woo more businesses.
“There was no suitable industrial land available in Mulwala or Yarrawonga at the time I was looking around,” Mr Tresize said.
“There was an offer to take up some land in Wangaratta, but we didn’t really want to relocate.
“Corowa Shire then came to the party with some land and we came to terms on a price and away we went.”
Mr Tresize was approached by Corowa general manager Chris Gillard asking if he would support an application to the National Stronger Regions Fund with successful bidders announced in last week’s federal budget.
The federal funding is in addition to the $1.5 million Mr Tresize plans to spend on expanding his business.
The expansion is expected to create 15 new jobs and when the estate is complete an additional 45 lots of varying sizes will be available.
Preliminary work has started and construction will be completed by Easter next year.
It will also significantly improve drainage in the area which could spark additional growth in residential subdivisions.
The council is hoping to attract businesses in the transport, building and construction and metals and engineering industries when the estate is completed.
Yarrawonga Manufactured Housing is about to begin stage 3 of the Albury Lifestyle Village in Lavington and is also involved in the Citygate Holiday Park redevelopment.
