The Power were clearly the better side in the first half as they opened up a handy 16-point buffer at the main break despite missing plenty of chances in front of goal.
With their top-two aspirations on the line, Spiders coach Joel Price swung the changes including sending match-winner Josh Dicketts to a wing and full-forward James Gray to centre half-back.
Key defenders James Eastoe and Cameron Curlis were also sent forward.
The Spiders responded with one of their most devastating quarters of the season so far, to pile on seven goals to one in the third quarter on their way to a 11.11 (77) to 7.16 (58) win.
Price said after losing to the Murray Magpies the previous week, Saturday’s victory could prove season defining with the Spiders in fourth spot and only four points and percentage outside the top-two.
“In the context of our season, it was a huge game for us,” Price said.
“We had a team meeting during the week and spoke about the importance of winning.
“I think there is three distinct tiers in the competition.
“If we had lost on the weekend we would have slipped into that middle tier and face a fierce battle just to make finals.
“But by winning it keeps our top-two aspirations alive, which is huge, with Jindera the only side winning the flag from outside the top-two since the top-six was introduced in 2008.”
Azzi medallist Peter Hancock was the Spiders best after a dominant display in the ruck.
Eastoe proved menacing after switching to attack while Gray also thrived in defence after struggling to have an impact deep in the Spiders forward line in recent weeks.
“To play the way we did in that third quarter was pleasing,” he said.
“It proves that we have got a bit of versatility and opened my eyes up a bit.
“We have probably been too one-dimensional when going forward in that we either look for Dicketts or Gray.
“Moving forward it gives us a lot more options and we know Dicketts and Gray can certainly play other roles and other guys can go forward and be relied upon to kick goals.”
Price said he wasn’t too disappointed to lose to the Magpies the previous week.
“We had eight out including four of our back six,” he said.
“Rohan Davies didn’t play and then we also lost Hamish Clark and Ben Baker during the game with shoulders.
“Full credit to the Magpies for the win, but I was actually rapt with our effort last week to be honest.”
In other matches Jindera scored a percentage boosting 151-point win over Culcairn with Josh Walker booting six-goals and taking the lead in the goalkicking race.
Former Carlton and Port Adelaide star Nick Stevens made his debut for Billabong Crows against Brock-Burrum and booted two goals.
But it mattered little as the Saints enjoyed a 90-point win with Jarrod Hillary making a welcome return from a hamstring injury with a six-goal haul.
