Officers from Benalla intercepted a hire van on the highway near Baddaginnie around 3pm yesterday.
Members checked the van and located more 254,000 imported individual cigarettes along with mobile phones.
It’s alleged that the cigarettes avoided over $100,000 in tariffs.
The driver and his passenger were arrested by police and interviewed and charged with deal property suspected of being proceeds of crime.
A 23-year-old man from Sydney and a 49-year-old man from Ashfield have been bailed to appear at the Benalla Magistrates’ Court on 1 September.
