Originally home of the Mate's department store it was an emporium catering to shoppers who were seeking everything from handkerchiefs to haberdashery.
In recent times it has been fragmented with various businesses in different parts of the building which dates back to 1916.
That has seen retailers with Kiewa or Dean street frontage and others, such as JB Hi-Fi and Harris Scarfe occupy large sites within the building.
Now home appliance vendor Bing Lee is set to become part of the site.
This is welcome news for shoppers wanting variety in the Albury CBD, because over the past decade these businesses have gone to so-called homemaker centres.
However, other retail precincts in the heart of Albury need a boost.
Stores below the Volt Lane car park are largely dormant and the nearby City Walk arcade contains many empty shops.
