The Saints’ defeat has plunged them into favouritism to finish on the bottom with the loss compounded by a potentially serious injury to co-coach Brad Murray, who took no further part in the match after half-time.
Murray, one of the Morris Medal favourites, “popped” his AC joint in a big collision with Hawks’ youngster Brydon Robins in the second term. He also took no further part in the match.
The Hawks were a class above the Saints with telling contributions from best-on-ground Sean O’Keeffe, Alex Marklew, Ryan Cobain and Dale Martin, who piled up the possessions with minimal pressure.
Lochie Dornauf was lively up forward with four goals including two in the last term as the Hawks slammed on six goals to nil.
Mitch Dalbosco and Brady Sharp battled hard.
