The scam leads people to believe that a parcel has arrived for pick-up at their local post office and that customers are being charged while the post office “holds” the parcel for them.
The customer is advised to print out a special label before pick-up but if they do as directed on their computer, it will be hit by a virus that steals personal information.
Member for Murray Sharman Stone said the scam was clever but not hard to spot.
“This scam can be easily detected given Australia Post never charges you for holding a parcel, and the logo the scammers have used is also not accurate,” she said..
“As soon as you see this email or message, delete it from your system, don’t attempt to open any additional messages and do not follow their instructions.”
