Mitchell Stephenson was the only goalkicker for Wodonga, which could only manage 1.3 - 9 to Albury’s 7.8 – 50 at a rain-soaked Albury Sportsground on Saturday.
The Dogs, who were missing Daniel Bradshaw who was a late change, didn’t kick a goal until the final quarter of the 41-point loss.
“They kicked four in the first quarter which made it hard to come back from there,” Wodonga captain Sam Maher said.
“They are pretty well-drilled and obviously the conditions were pretty bad.
“Whoever gets close to them will have to be right on their game and will need a bit of luck as well.”
Prime movers Joel Mackie and Dean Polo were outstanding for the home side, while Michael Duncan was also impressive and bobbed up with two crucial goals.
Ruckman Matt Seiter flew the flag for Wodonga, which couldn’t claw back a 24-point deficit at quarter time.
