These things are the centre of author Kim Macklin’s second book, Cinnamon’s Birthday Surprise.
The Life Without Barriers client created the story around a French poodle, Cinnamon, who is forgotten on her birthday.
She then runs away but is found after a bulldog launches a search party.
“I just wanted to teach kids how good it is for them to pay attention to their friends,” Ms Macklin said.
Her story, which will be launched at Ettamogah Pub on Saturday at 11am, is the sequel to Happy Harry's Beach Adventure, released last October.
Ms Macklin sold more than 200 copies and hopes to do the same again with help from CSU and Table Top Public School students.
“I think people will think it’s a mystery because they'll be wondering where Cinnamon has gone,” Table Top Public School’s Callie Gaukroger, 9, said.
Ms Macklin is now writing her next book about a dog that befriends a cockatoo.
