Clarke finished third in the Open Junior Men’s Classic 1km sprint behind Marlo’s Damon Morton and Norwegian entrant Markus Wirstad.
It was a torrid weekend for racing, with rain falling throughout on Saturday, eventually causing the cancellation of the newly added cross country cross (XCX) event on Saturday afternoon.
The result ensure that Clarke’s name would be well and truly among those considered for February’s Winter Youth Olympic Games in Norway.
Only one athlete will be selected to travel to the youth games, with Clarke competing against Canberra’s Liam Burton and Seve de Campo from South Yarra for a place.
The women’s spot appears to be all but wrapped up, with Ulladulla product Lilly Boland a clear front-runner.
