A MOTORIST survived a high-impact crash with a V/Line passenger train near Benalla on Thursday.

The Benalla man's Mitsubishi Magna was struck by the southbound train at the Benalla-Yarrawonga Road level crossing about 2pm.
The train had left Albury at 12.45pm and had more than 80 passengers on board.
Acting Inspector Mark Byers, of Benalla police, said the cause of the crash was being investigated.
The driver went to Wangaratta hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
After stopping for more than an hour, the train continued to Benalla and passengers were transferred to buses for the rest of their journey.
The evening North East rail services on Thursday were replaced by buses.
