G’day fishos.

To say the weather was unhelpful for you last weekend would be an understatement! It was crap!!
From the lack of reports we received I believe most of our Compleat Angler customers were enjoying Nanna naps or watching the footy – and who could blame them.
The way the weather has been this winter it would seem the only way to wet a line is to vacate the area.
That’s just what Neville Coulston and Bob Deretic did a week or so back when they headed for the coast.
They ended up around Batemans Bay, but fished all over the place with success.
Huge numbers of fish weren’t caught, but there were enough flatties, bream, etc to keep them interested.
One flattie in particular had Nev tied up for a while at Tuross Lake – after a battle he landed a 1.1m monster using a Gulp Bloodworm plastic.
While we were freezing our Patuties off, the boys enjoyed reasonably mild conditions (including no frosts).
As with quite a few species of fish, flatties turn from male to female at a certain age (maphrodites).
Because of this, keen fishos generally release these larger breeders, even though you can legally keep one over 75cm in NSW). Lucky for her Nev did the right thing and let the old girl go to breed another day.
Further north I’ve had a few reports from a couple of groups of locals enjoying themselves in the NT and picking up enough barra and mudcrabs to have a decent feed reasonably regularly … poor buggers.
On the home front, Dartmouth continues to produce a few nice fish. Most reports revolve around Tassie Devils or King Cobras trolled flatlining or downrigging at about 10 to 12m.
That’s a big difference in depth, but they seem to be all over the place like a politician’s travel allowance paperwork at the moment – the bottom line is you’ve got to be willing to experiment.
Lake Hume has produced a couple of good reddies between the arctic blasts this week. The McGrath lure man himself, Mark Larsen, trolled a couple up using his wide body model.
Photos of some catches are on our Masons Compleat Angler Facebook page.
High country trout should be having a bit of a dip too.
No reports, but this is the time of year when the big’uns fire up a bit. Only time will tell.
Mulwala is no problems to fish now, with all ramps back in the water.
Not sure the fish are going crazy but there is enough action to make a trip – if they had a go in those conditions, you should be in with a shot when the weather improved a bit?
Anyhow, wherever you head for this weekend stay warm and catch heaps.
