The operators of Beechworth Road café Deli Bean will open a licenced café at the eastern end of the building and next door to Broadgauge restaurant which started in mid-2013.
Owners Rod and Amanda Ayton are hoping to open the Beanstation Cafe in late October and will use the station platform on Friday evenings for food and entertainment.
Confirmation of a second tenant in the station building is expected to be followed by further commercial activity in the nearby Goods Shed building once $2 million worth of improvements are made to the area known as The Promenade.
"We were approached to do this and has turned out bigger than we thought," Mr Ayton said.
"The potential is huge."
Places Victoria precincts general manager Simon Wilson said the new café would provide Wodonga residents with another café option operated by locals.
“Rod and Amanda Ayton have been part of the Wodonga food scene for 27 years and we are delighted they’ve chosen Junction Place for their new venture,” Mr Wilson said.
“The Beanstation Café will complement the Broadgauge restaurant, attracting more people to Junction Place throughout the day.
“Places Victoria has already brought several popular additions to Wodonga’s food and beverage scene even in the early stages of development at Junction Place.
"Broadgauge in the station building and the pop-up precinct fronting High Street are attracting a steady stream of visitors.
“This new café will be a welcome addition to the precinct.”
The cafe will operate Wednesday to Sunday between 7am and 4pm, but is licenced to open to 11pm on Fridays.
The café will also offer catering and a corporate meeting room for hire.
An expression of interest process is still underway for the next stage of development at Junction Place.
“This expression of interest process is a really important step in the revitalisation of central Wodonga,” Mr Wilson said.
“It provides an opportunity to be part of regional Australia’s largest urban renewal project and we hope to attract a range of new development opportunities to the site.”
