A MAN has been left homeless after his Wodonga unit was destroyed by fire.
The blaze ripped through his Holt Place abode after erupting about 5.40pm on Thursday.
The man was not home at the time the fire started.
Nearby resident Jake Shields was driving home when he spotted the smoke.
He dashed into the street and picked up a garden hose from a neighbouring backyard.
"The flames were pretty intense, they were billowing out two to three metres from the roof," Mr Shields said.
Wodonga fire station officer David Brown said the fire was not being treated as suspicious.
