Flames started burning from the bonnet of the four-wheel-drive on Union Road near Turner Street.
Firefighters received the call about 6am.
The top of the bonnet was left charred.
The windscreen was blackened, cracked and a scrap of police tape was wrapped around one of the side mirrors.
The car was left on Union Road.
Police are not treating the fire as suspicious.
