Kathleen Miller was choked, bashed and even thrown down stairs in a devastating pattern that continued into her adult years.
On Monday, she was jailed for 13 months for a crime the court heard was in retaliation for ongoing abuse from her partner.
Miller, 51, of Hume Street, will serve a four-month non-parole period, eligible for release on October 16.
Magistrate Tony Murray took note of a pre-sentence report that outlined Miller’s many years of difficulties by ordering she undergo treatment for alcohol, drug and anger management issues as directed.
Solicitor Joy Kirby said one strong factor in Miller’s favour was that she had responded well to previous treatment.
Miller pleaded guilty to possessing ammunition without a licence, using an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence, possess an unauthorised firearm and possess a shortened firearm without authority.
Miller pointed a sawn-off .410 calibre shotgun to frighten her partner at her home on June 16 at 2pm, claiming she had been subject to “two years of violence from this guy”.
The court previously heard Bruce John Miller was driven to her home, was immediately abusive after going inside, slapped her to the head and choked her.
He then went into the kitchen while Miller went to her bedroom to get her son’s unloaded sawn-off gun, but soon after her partner threw it over a fence.
He appeared briefly too on Monday to answer charges over the incident.
His case was adjourned to September 22.
