They will be in the community as part of their efforts for the Prisoners on the Run charity fun run.
The aim is to raise as much money as possible to buy equipment for children with disabilities.
Last year the charity raised $50,000 through the 8 kilometre run, with the equipment handed over in a special ceremony.
Beechworth Correctional Centre general manager Terry Jose said the event involved a lot of hard work.
“Prisoners are involved in a number of activities with prison staff, including helping to organise the annual fun run from the Old Beechworth Prison round the gorge to the new Beechworth Correctional Centre,” he said.
“The prisoners go out on supervised letter-drops in the local community to publicise the fun run and on the day itself they help to set up the course and run the stalls that sell promotional items.”
Mr Jose said prisoners also raised money for the charity by running stalls at local markets and festivals.
The prisoners sold their hand-made wooden products, including toys, and plants they have grown.
“Prisoners love to contribute to Prisoners on the Run and it is a fantastic opportunity for them to give something back to the community and to see the positive impact their work has on schools, children and their families,” Mr Jose said.
“Last year 12 prisoners also took part in the run.”
Prisoners on the Run has raised more than $1.4 million.
Entry is $25 for adults, $15 for children aged five to 16 and $50 for two adults and two children.
