Firstly it was St Matthew’s parish centre. Services for young people, the occasional child-minding centre all had to go, then the Retro youth cafe – a place for young people to call their own. 

It is true that some of these services have been accommodated elsewhere but the parishioners of St Matthew’s church have been holding functions in Father Peter McLeod-Miller’s home, Adamshurst, after being refused a space in the redeveloped Albury Art Gallery. 

The Retro Youth Cafe has been closed now for nearly two years and still red tape and delays continue, and the question remains, will it be the same as it was. Access to the land in question has never been restricted to the public. 

And all of this to make way for and accommodate the $10.5 million redeveloped art gallery. Nothing else seems to matter as the Albury council and mayor continue to ride roughshod over anyone or anything that is nor art gallery focused. 

The gallery will accommodate a minority, unlike the above facilities that gave a service to a large number of people. 

If the council does take possession of this land what will happen to the war memorial?

It is well known the council’s attitute to anything that has historical value to the people of Albury.

ALBURY Council should be ashamed of itself in depriving battling residents of water. There are 484 houses owing more than $600 – why? Because Albury council are too greedy. My water usage is $36. Sewerage access is $213. Wodonga is $56.

How can there be such a difference? You can’t budget when your rates increase every year and your wages don’t. They need to get their heads out of the sand and realise people are battling.

But I would like to thank Mark Butters from Beechworth (The Border Mail, August 25) for taking the time to say the truth: “there is nothing here to fear except fear itself”. 

Denying people rights because they are not of the same ilk as you is not progressive or democratic, it is bigotry.

INDI is in a whirl! Lots of social events, media coverage, interaction, excitement, lots of talking, discussion and letter-writing. Quote, “The money keeps rolling in”, states Cathy McGowan. I wonder where the money comes from and will it continue to roll in? Or are we living in fairyland?

I WRITE in response to The Border Mail’s story (August 21) “Under Siege”, about the ice epidemic turning the screws and Tahlia McPherson’s excellent report on the same issue.

I would like to ask as to the whereabouts of our intrepid member for Benambra on this issue. Being a former police officer, it would be fair to assume that he would have a deeper understanding of this issue than most of us and therefore be all over this, and yet silence from this office on this issue is deafening.

Perhaps it’s time that this sleepy hollow of Benambra was shaken out of its compliance and given the same wake-up call that Indi got.
