The Albury venue has undergone a $1 million facelift with the gala day to be held from 10am to 2pm with parents and children also able to register to join local athletics clubs on the day for the upcoming season.
The track surface has been upgraded to an IAAF class status with added improvements being made to the discus, spot put and hammer throw cage.
Alexandra Park is home to two little athletics clubs, Albury and Lavington-Jindera, and the senior Albury Athletics Club, which was formerly known as Border Track and Field Club.
Albury-based clubs used the Wodonga facility in Pearce Street during the reconstruction.
Albury Little Athletics Club president Brett Schofield said the gala day would be a chance to show off the facility in a fun and community-focused way.
“Ultimately, we want to inspire all kids to give little athletics a go," he said.
"Having the new facilities is a great platform for that.
"We encourage all kids of all ages and abilities to get down and get involved.
“We have a focus on achieving personal bests, which is why the sport has always been so popular.”
Albury Council's athletics advisory committee chairman Daryl Betteridge said the revamped track had received an international accreditation of class two _ the highest class possible without being attached to an Olympic or world championship training facility.
“This is a great facility for the community and I encourage everyone to go and have a look and enjoy the gala day,” Cr Betteridge said.
Albury mayor Kevin Mack will officially open the track at 12.30pm on September 5.
“I encourage anyone interested in getting their children involved in athletics to go and take a look because it is a great activity for kids,” he said.
Among the attractions on the gala day will be a barbecue and free activities for children, including face painting, colouring competitions, egg and spoon and three-legged races, gumboot throwing competition and other novelty events.
There will also be a fun run at 12.45pm for all ages, abilities and walkers.
There will also be demonstrations and coaching from professional athletes and local radio station Star FM will broadcast live.
