La Trobe University’s Albury-Wodonga Campus will host its annual open day on August 28 when community members are invited to see what’s on offer and share the experience with students and staff.
The open day is an annual highlight on the university calendar and will showcase tours, information sessions, displays, food and plenty of entertainment for the public.
Vice-Chancellor Professor John Dewar said it was an exciting opportunity to demonstrate the wide range of courses and activities La Trobe University had to offer to the community on the Border.
“Open day offers the perfect opportunity for future students to come and find their fit and learn more about potential career paths,” Professor Dewar said.
As well as information on courses, open day festival visitors will be able to access information on university pathways, scholarship programs, living on campus, fee structures and more.
La Trobe University Albury-Wodonga community engagement officer Jessica Watt said this year the open day festival format had changed to showcase the wider community network as well as the La Trobe campus and courses.
“It’s much more than just course information this year,” she said.
University study is a significant transition for any prospective student to undertake.
“The wider community plays an integral role in facilitating a student’s success not just in their studies but in their future careers, friendships and wellbeing,” Ms Watt said.
Ms Watt said highlights of the open day included course and pathway information, free food and music, The Quinn Brothers and The Northern Folk; an animal nursery; inflatable soccer pitch and science ‘techy’ tent; SimMan nursing demonstrations; and, accommodation tours.
The Community Volunteer Expo will be held as part of the La Trobe University Albury-Wodonga Campus open day festival on Friday.
People can learn how to make a difference in their community, gain valuable skills and network with organisations in the university courtyard outside 3a1 and 3 Degrees Cafe.
Expo participants include Albury-Wodonga Volunteer Resource Centre, Country Fire Authority, Green Army, Australian Youth Climate Coalition, Community Door, La Trobe Volunteer Opportunities, Junction Support Services and Interchange.
There will be free food, music and entertainment throughout the open day.
It will run between 4pm and 7pm on Friday, at La Trobe University Albury-Wodonga Campus, 133 McKoy Street, Wodonga.
