Andre Star had held a knife at his victim’s throat shortly before the man made his getaway.
The man told a committal hearing in February that he was “absolutely terrified” when Star, 40, ordered him to strip naked by a tree.
Star was sentenced on four charges before County Court judge Frank Gucciardo in Melbourne this week.
Once released, Star must abide by the conditions of a two-year community corrections order.
Judge Gucciardo ordered that 422 days Star has already spent in custody be deducted from the sentence, with a release date of just before Christmas.
The committal hearing in the Wodonga Magistrate’s Court heard how the pair had a heated argument while fox shooting near Star’s Bungil property on night of June 27 last year.
The victim said Star started yelling crazily at him when he refused to hand over a rifle so he could shoot cattle.
He had only given him a rifle when Star held the knife at his throat.
The victim threw his hat at Star after being told to take off his clothes.
He then fled, telling the committal he was “running for my life”.
He eventually came across a farming family, who took him to Wodonga police station.
The victim said he was "very confused" about what happened as Star was “supposed to be a good mate”.
One witness said Star, who suffered from schizophrenia, had spoken to him about the threat of the "Terminators" and "the Churchies", who were coming over the hills to get his farm.
Judge Gucciazrdo convicted and sentenced Star to 12 months’ jail for armed robbery, eight months for reckless conduct endangering serious injury, nine months for intentionally destroy property, eight months for handling stolen goods and one month for using amphetamine.
Star was ordered to also pay $1400 compensation.
The community corrections order requires him to undergo assessment and treatment for drug abuse and mental health treatement.
