BORDER residents will tell of surviving cancer and caring for those struck by the disease when a cocktail fundraiser is held at Albury's new art gallery next month.

The Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre Trust Fund will stage the October 9 event which is aimed at generating donations for the $65 million treatment complex being built next to the base hospital.
It will be the first official function at MAMA, following its opening a week earlier.
Speakers will include Michelle Hensel, who survived breast cancer before caring for her son Braedon who died last year after being diagnosed with a sarcoma in the neck in 2011.
Border Ovarian Cancer Awareness Group president Heather Watts will speak of caring for her daughter who died in 2011, while trust fund board member Grant Luff will tell of assisting his wife Sue who died of cancer in 2000.
Fellow board member and oncologist Craig Underhill will talk about cancer treatment from a professional viewpoint.
“It will be an evening that gives our community supporters the opportunity to network and enjoy a look at MAMA, as well as hearing from our local champions," trust fund chairwoman Di Thomas said.
Tickets for the cocktail reception are $85 each.
