Leading Senior Constable Anthony Short said the 41 year old allegedly blew a blood alcohol reading of 0.154 per cent when caught on Myrtleford-Yackandandah Road at 10.30pm.
Police also immediately disqualified the man's driver licence and expect to charge him on summons to appear in the Myrtleford Magistrates' Court at a later date.
This was the second time in three weeks Myrtleford police have used new hoon legislation that states they can impound a car for 30 days if the driver records a blood alcohol reading of 0.10 per cent or above.
Leading Senior Constable Short said Monday's arrest and impound was exactly why the impound law was introduced.
"On this occasion, this particular man ensured his car was impounded," the officer said.
