Smith joined the Hoppers from Werribee South in 1953 and won two best and fairests in his five seasons at Bunton Park.
He came second, third and fourth in the other years.
Smith coached North Albury’s reserves in 1958 and was a member of the Past Players and Officials for 20 years.
Ovens and Murray historian Les O’Brien rated Smith as the best wingman he has seen in the league.
