About 125 people at Friday’s Young Business Edge Gala 2015 had the chance to hear this advice from guest speaker Holly Ransom.
Young Business Edge acting chairman Matt Sharp said when planning the event the committee all came with a list of three people they would like to hear.
"Holly was pretty much a clear standout for everybody," he said.
"Very relatable, very much on trend with what we are hoping to portray to our Young Business Edge crowd."
A well-known speaker and media commentator, Ms Ransom is the chief executive officer of Emergent Solutions, which specialises in developing leadership and high performing workforces.
“She said you need to create leadership yourself,” Mr Sharp said.
“So if you're waiting for something to be handed to you on a silver platter it won't come.
“Make it happen for yourself and follow your dreams.
"There's so many people in our group, in YBE that do have that passion and that drive and are out there to succeed at a young age.”
Young Business Edge is an initiative of the Wodonga and Albury Northside Chambers of Commerce for business and professional people under 40 years.
