The three-year-old boy disappeared from the front yard of his home in Kendall, New South Wales, exactly a year ago on September 12, 2014.
The Albury Walk 4 William event will begin at the QEII square at 10.30am and last about 20 minutes before finishing up in Hovell Tree Park with a free sausage sizzle and refreshments.
Albury local Julie Fenton-Smith is organising the event to help the call for information and raise awareness that this could happen to anyone.
“You just think they are safe,” she said.
“That story touched my heart, I’ve got grandchildren the same age.
“It must be heartbreaking what his family must be going through.”
The walk will be one of 200 official Walk 4 William events held around Australia on Saturday.
Ms Fenton-Smith said she put the word out on Facebook and has been helped with donations of banners, balloons and sausages for the event.
“The response from people has been fantastic,” she said.
“It’s Australia coming together for this.”
Organisers are not asking for donations, just a chance to raise awareness of what can happen to young children like William Tyrrell.
Participants in the walk are being asked to wear red and blue as a tribute to the missing boy.
“William’s favourite superhero was Spider-Man so we’re asking people if they want to dress as Spider-Man,” Ms Fenton-Smith said.
The police investigation into the boy’s disappearance continues with the hope he is still alive and authorities have called for any new information.
Reports can be made anonymously to Crime Stoppers by calling 1800 333 000.
“It may be insignificant, but it may prove to be something,” Ms Fenton-Smith said.
To participate in the walk, there is no need to register, just gather at the QEII square from 10am on Saturday.
