Wheels of fashion turn
THE Border Mail article published September 8, by Daivs Harrigan on cycling vs car transport raises a lot of issues on safety for bike riders –especially for those opting to take to bikes who haven’t been on one since childhood or never.

When I went to school, nearly ever kid got there on their own bike or walked. Others took the public buses.
Very few were ever dropped off and picked up at school in the family car. Unlike today, when it has become the exact opposite.
Our present culture does not encourage and sponsor bike riding for all ages, as a way of life – only as a trendy fashion weekend diversional activity at best.
There needs to be a stronger push (pardon the pun) to encourage cycling as a healthier way to live. Regular bike transport brings improved breathing through systematic tempered exercise, better connection with the environment, no noise and no pollution.
If more people changed their life-style habits and used the four wheeled petrol burners less and the humble, silent two wheeler more there would be improvements in the lives of many.
The recent Albury study that cited cars as an “intrinsic part of our culture” and that walking and cycling as being “unfashionable” is absolutely true.
“Fashion” has always been history’s greatest motivator but I have found that those who are fashionable do not always think and act for themselves – they prefer to have others do it for them. For them, fashion rules.
I think I’ll stick to the bike.

INDI RESEMBLES AN EPISODE OF GAME OF THRONES
MY letter to the editor is not so much to bring anything to light, but instead to emphasize a point that I believe most people in the electorate of Indi have noticed also.
Mrs Mirabella has launched her campaign on the bounds of disrespect and cutting corners.
She has been seen chatting with MPs in Melbourne and Canberra, presenting cases to obtain funding for Indi which is not her seat. Cathy McGowan has been put on the back burner in place of Mrs Mirabella as everyone saw at the Anzac centenary launch.
I cannot believe for the life of me that the people of Indi will be so quick to forget the fact Sophie did nothing for this electorate for the 12 years she held the seat.
The tactics employed by the Liberal Party for this campaign so far are more suited to that of the Lannisters in Game of Thrones.
Can somebody tell me when the red wedding begins?
This federal election I am throwing my full support behind Labor candidate Eric Kerr.
It is time that we presented a new and fresh view.
It is time that a fresh perspective was introduced to Parliament House in Canberra.
Australia is a strong and progressive nation and Indi is changing and growing.
We deserve to have a representative who actually wants to make a difference in Indi.
Indi needs a revival, it's time for Indi to stand up and smell the roses.
We are Indi, not Westeros and the tactile games will not win Indi. Understanding, compassion and dedication will.

League storm is brewing
HOW is it that we live in NSW and cannot get a direct telecast of an NRL qualifying final, even when the Melbourne Storm is playing?
Other New South Welshmen can enjoy a live coverage. Why not us?
I also feel for Victorian followers who cannot watch their own team playing in a free to air final.
