Understand now why she is a big deal?
For Jaymz and Braydan Godde they did not need to look up Rousey, they already knew how big a superstar she is.
That’s why when they heard she was appearing in Melbourne on Tuesday to promote UFC 193, they had to be there.
Never mind a little thing like school getting in the way.
“We went down there on a chance of maybe seeing her, because Braydan just thinks she is the best ever,” Eddy Godde said.
“He’s got the posters on his wall and he even tries to put his brother in an arm-bar in under 30 seconds every day after school.
“When they (his sons) found out she would be fighting in Melbourne, the first thing they wanted to do was to get tickets.
“They wanted to skip school and do whatever it took for them to get down there to see her.”
Armed with hand-made signs, one asking Rousey for her hand in marriage, they stood in the throng of 10,000 at Etihad Stadium for the press conference.
“The UFC media people thought the signs were cute and because of that they got the chance to get the photo with her,” Eddy said.
The family, which are all fight fans and actively participate in kickboxing, got to rub shoulders with one of the most recognisable athletes in the world.
And what was she like with the kids?
“She was really nice and really good with them when they were up there,” Eddy said.
“It only lasted for about 20 seconds, but she had a chat with the boys and then came up to them after the press conference was over and asked them if they enjoyed it.
“They were just ecstatic on the car ride home and they had trouble getting to sleep last night that’s for sure.”
Rousey will headline the biggest mixed martial arts card in Australian history when she stars in the main event at Etihad Stadium on November 14.
However, for the Godde family they have something that is worth more than any ticket.
“We tried to explain to the kids how rare a chance it was,” Eddy said.
“That the UFC has never allowed anybody to come up to get a photo with a fighter like they were allowed to do.
“But hopefully we are lucky enough to get some tickets to go watch it when it’s on in Melbourne.”
