Bill wanted to renew their vows on their 50th wedding anniversary but Eva didn't.
After Bill was diagnosed with bladder cancer and Eva with metastatic adenocarcinoma, a terminal cancer, the pair went through with it.
Bill said he can still remember the day they met on Hume Street in Wodonga.
“I asked if my sister knew any nice girls and she said there was one who lived across the road,” he said.
“I went over and asked her to the drive-in.”
The pair soon married, after Eva ran an hour late to the wedding, and said their feelings haven't changed.
Mercy Health staff chipped in for the couple’s last wish.
