Michelle Head attended a learner driver workshop earlier this year and said she encourages other parents and supervisors to give the next round a go.
Mrs Head is new to teaching her son how to drive and said the session was relaxed, informal and answered all of her questions.
“It teaches you how to positively encourage them to drive and correct their mistakes,” she said.
“Also how to stage the lessons so you don’t push them into the deep end.
“The whole system has changed since I got my licence 20 years ago, so it was really good to have a refresher and another basic introduction.”
Another round of workshops are being held on September 23 and October 29 at Albury Council offices in partnership with Roads and Maritime Service.
The session covers topics including new laws for L and P-plate drivers, how to use the new learner driver log book and how to plan on-road driving sessions.
Council's road safety officer Lauren Musil said supervisors needed to be equipped with the right tools and information.
“Parents and supervisors who have attended this course found it boosted their confidence, helped them better plan driving sessions and allowed them to share experiences with other parents and supervisors,” she said.
“We hope people leave with their questions answered but also feeling a lot happier to be in car with learner driver.
“The learner driver group isn't so much the group that we see in crash statistics, but it's in the first six months of them getting a licence that we see a spike in injury crashes.
“So this is about giving supervisors the tools to give L-platers the experience they need.”
Councillor and chair of the local traffic committee Graham Docksey said supervisors had a crucial role to play in making our roads safer.
