Wangaratta firefighter Carl Stibilj said multiple bins had been burnt in the early hours of Monday morning.
The bins had been against a building in Ely Street when the fires started.
“They had the potential to spread into the structure and cause significant damage and loss of property,” he said.
Several bin fires were lit between 12.30am and 2am.
