Not our problem: council
I SENT an email to the Wodonga council’s website under their heading “report a problem”, informing them about a section of street lighting not working.

The response I received was, Thank-you for your report, but council does not handle street lighting. Ausnet services can be notified on phone or email (both provided).
I can understand Ausnet maybe responsible for the street lighting but one would have thought the customer service department of the council could have simply on-forwarded my email to Ausnet services and the problem would have been resolved. But no, they made the problem mine.
The Wodonga Council obviously have no responsibilities for problems within our community. When I responded, thanking them for their wonderful service, I received a statement said Ausnet own the poles and wires just like the water authority and gas suppliers, so not our problem.
Please beware and take note ratepayers.
We are now responsible for gas leaks, electricity and street lighting concerns.
Our caring council does not want to know anything about them and will not assist in rectifying the problem either?
Customer service at its best hey!

A tough politics lesson
INDI constituents are not silly. They know it hurt Sophie Mirabella and her party deeply when she was voted out last federal election.
Indi also knows there is an unfair and unbalanced representation in her favour across all media outlets – it somehow seems to escape editorial understanding she is merely one of several candidates, for an election that has not even been called.
Sophie had no deep connection with Indi before she became its federal member and some argue that this distant feeling never changed - until now.
It is therefore especially sad watching young people, deeply connected with Indi, being outlawed for caring a little too much about their homeland and wanting to effect change.
It is a tough lesson for them to learn about the might of a peeved-off political party.
Believe me, if the Australian Electoral Commission did a broader migratory audit there would be countbacks and court appearances everywhere.

Good people out there
LAST week I had the unfortunate experience of my car breaking down at Splitters Creek just on dark.
While waiting for help to arrive from my local Howlong mechanic who arranged a trailer from the lovely Howlong panel beaters, a man and his son stopped and offered help.
He had just left when another man stopped. He was in a 4x4 with his wife, two little boys and a brand new baby.
He tried to get my car started to no avail, then said they would stay with me until help arrived.
The experience left me feeling so grateful for the wonderful caring passers-by.
Thanks to all you lovely people.

The height of stupidity
I READ Frank Smith’s letter regarding skydiving operations at Corowa with sheer disbelief.
The facility was built by skydivers, maintained by skydivers and has been a financial blessing for the town.
How can council put the lease to public tender? It may own the land but not the building.
The owner would legally be able to demolish the facility. The army parachute exercises are apparently looming to relocate because of council’s greed regarding fees.
I hope Cr Bruinsma maybe able to convince council this action would be the height of stupidity.
