Holbrook Landcare Women In Ag will run five free “taster” sessions on Wednesday, October 28 featuring a range of topics and guest speakers to help rural women with decision-making at a personal and business level on farms and in the community.
Among the speakers will be Lucinda Corrigan and her daughter Ruth from Rennylea Angus. Lucinda is an inspiring rural advocate and business woman in her own right and will share her story together with Ruth who returned to the family-run operation in 2014.
Natalie Shepard and Sandra Martin, from Universally Speaking, will cover how to improve communication techniques with business partners and build a better business with clarity, direction and goals.
These “two motivating and empowering women” will also offer important insight into identifying the unique talents and strengths of others and how to maintain harmonious relationships.
Holbrook Landcare WiA project officer Phoebe Gulliver said the aim of these types of sessions was to connect women and help them build their confidence through skill and knowledge delivery.
Starting as a group of 35 women in 2011, the organisation now has now more than 250 members via its email and social media groups and that number is growing.
“We tailor workshops and events to suit our members and encourage women of all ages, backgrounds and skill levels to participate,” Ms Gulliver said.
“We design and run events that are fun and interesting, sourcing mainly local presenters, usually women, to share their knowledge and skills with the group.”
The October 28 taster event will help decide on the programs for next year with women encouraged to sample what’s on offer and comment on the direction of the project.
Other topics to be covered are local examples of holistic farm management systems, how to influence pasture and animal production with Janelle Jenkins (from Riverina Local Land Services), and women’s health and wellbeing.
Brigitte Weber, from Albury Community Health Centre, has 38 years of nursing experience and will outline the importance of self-care and stress management with relaxation techniques and laughter yoga.
The free event includes morning tea and lunch. For more details or to RSVP contact Phoebe Gulliver on (02) 6036 3181 or phoebegulliver@holbrooklandcare.org.au.
