The city will be one of nine destinations to display the touring showcase titled The Art of Story which explores author Shaun Tan's process in transitioning the popular children's book into an animated film.
It took ten years for the pictures to be given life in a movie that has won an Academy Award and an Oscar.
Tan was supposed to be in Wodonga to open the exhibition on Friday, but in his absence he has supplied a one-off drawing.
Curator Simone Nolan said the drawing could be won by someone who goes to see the display.
“The exhibition speaks to both children and adults,” she said.
“It's rare for his work to get to regional areas, we are really lucky to have it.”
The film will be showed in the Wodonga Library and a floor-talk will be held at Art Space on Saturday at 10am.
The interactive exhibition will be officially launched on Friday at 5.30pm.
