Neighbours reported flames leaping from the Logan Road house after the vacant property was targeted about 3am.
Michelle Clarkson had been living at the home with her son Matthew Bretz until about two weeks ago.
She isn’t sure if anyone had been targeting her family but said they would have died if they were inside.
“It’s quite a shock,” Ms Clarkson said from the scene.
“It’s lucky we weren’t in there because we sleep through anything.
“We wouldn’t have gotten out of that.”
The home had been for sale, and Ms Clarkson said she believed the owner lived in Tasmania.

There have been several fires at nearby homes, including last December where the rear of a woman’s public housing home was burnt
Ms Clarkson had lived in the home for seven years and said the area was usually quiet.
“They're pretty gutless,” she said of those responsible.
A nearby resident, who asked not to be named, said the latest incident had left her shaken.
She was woken by several loud explosions as the heat of the fire caused the property’s windows to blow out.
“The security light came on and I thought someone was at the cars, so I flew out the back door,” she said.
“There were flames coming all out the back.

“The windows blew out of the back.”
The woman called Triple-0 and her son hosed down their home amid fears it would also catch alight.
“It’s scary,” she said.
“When I first came here I didn’t think I’d be able to stay because it was a very rough area, but it’s not any more.
“You kind of relax, but it’s a bit unnerving when this happens.”
The home, which is next to a walkway connected to Resolution Street, had been for sale since August.
The flames caused the roof to fall in and the home was completely destroyed.
The property is likely to require demolition.
Fire investigators attended the property Thursday morning with firefighters.
Police are treating the blaze as suspicious and were trying to track down the owner on Thursday.
It’s believed no-one witnessed anyone at the home or fleeing the scene.
