The Brett Cavanough-trained The Monstar just failed to beat three home and run a place in the Group 2 Schillaci Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday, meaning there was no free beer on course at Albury.
The Monstar finished fourth in the $400,000 weight-for-age race over 1100 metres behind Alpha Miss, Cashed and Lankan Rupee.
But Cavanough was optimistic.
“I thought he raced super,” he said.
“Richard Bensley and I think he’s looking for 1400.
“He’s pretty effective but he’s wanting to settle and relax.
“He’s only getting beat a length and a half in these really good races, it’s a matter of finding the right race.”
But it was a successful day for Cavanough, who trained three winners at Albury.
Jessica Eaton rode two of them – Another Rush and Via Torrone – and Amanda Masters the other – Northern Myth.
