The 32-year-old hit an unbeaten ton in Saturday’s opening-round victory over WDCA newcomer Benalla Bushrangers.
Knight has won the past two Chronicle trophies, while he won the individual bowling average in the 2013-2014 season.
Knight, who made 541 runs last season and took 18 wickets, said the pitch at Yarrawonga’s S. Hargreaves Oval was a batsman’s paradise.
“It’s nice to get away with a few runs to start with,” he said.
“Hopefully I can hold onto a bit of form.
“I was probably a little scratchy early.
“It was a bloody good pitch and a fast outfield.
“So it was really good batting conditions.”
It was no surprise the Lakers batted after winning the toss, with Matt Casey and Reid Clarke putting on 37 for the first wicket.
Casey’s departure for 24 brought Knight to the crease and the veteran smashed nine boundaries and seven sixes, bringing up his quick-fire ton with a six.
The Bushrangers never looked like reaching the target of 2-206, finishing at 8-109.
Knight said with several new teams, the competition would be hard to predict.
“We went in a bit blind,” he said.
“It’s good to see some fresh faces and they bring some pretty good cricketers with them.
“It will only strengthen the comp, I think.”
