Greta, which tasted success just once last season, upset the Wanderers by six wickets at Greta on Saturday.
While Beechworth was missing star trio Brenton Surrey, Matt Hunt and Kayde Surrey, boom recruit Mark Butters made his debut, the speedster taking 2-11 off eight overs.
Greta captain Matt Gathercole, 24, said he was proud of his side.
“We understood that they had a few players out, so we are realistic but very pleasing to start the season that way,” he said.
Beechworth struggled to reach 100, with Nick Pell opening the bowling for Greta and finishing with 3-29.
Pell then hit an unbeaten 34, as Greta reached the target comfortably.
“It was a good way to start the year,” Gathercole said.
“We had plenty of young guys in the side and just wanted to play our role and do the basics right.”
