The 30-year-old man came to police attention on Thursday night after conducting burnouts, doughnuts and fishtails on several streets in the city.
The man had driven on Vincent Road, Ryley Street and Phillipson Street.
Police arrested the man after about six Triple-0 calls alerting them to the man’s driving.
Officers are investigating possible drug and alcohol links to the case.
After being arrested and released, the man was again arrested on family violence assault allegations.
He was remanded in custody after assaults that allegedly occurred on Friday night.
Police from the Wangaratta Family Violence Unit continue to investigate the matter.
Possible criminal charges were also being considered against the man due to the nature of his driving.
His white late-model Ford nearly side-swiped a person walking on a footpath.
Police last week labelled the man's driving as “unacceptable" and he will face court on Friday.
