Balldale went through the 1972 season undefeated after edging out a young Walla line-up by five points in a thrilling grand final at Walbundrie.
It was the first time the club had challenged for the flag since it won the 1962 premiership.
Balldale, who were coached by former Richmond, Albury and Wodonga player Dick Grimmond, had an outstanding team.
It boasted a swag of Ovens and Murray players including Ken Cain, Murray McCooke, Bob Rahaley, Bob Thompson and Tom Groch all in the side.
In a remarkable turn of events, Balldale disbanded only two years later.
Players, officials and supporters from the 1972 and 1962 premiership teams are invited to a reunion at the Lavington Panthers Sports Club on Friday from 7.15pm.
