Melville top-scored with 80 and put on a 100-run partnership for the sixth wicket with captain Jarred Lane (57), to give the Roos 240 at the Gardens Oval.
Benalla Violet Town United captain Rob Saker said it would be a difficult run chase for his side next week.
“It’s probably just above par but it will definitely take some getting,” Saker said.
“We had them 4-47, but then Lane and Melville batted well.
“They got away with a couple of shots but they turned the game on its head.”
Saker was outstanding with the ball, taking 3-41, while Lee Brennan took 3-49.
“He came on to bowl when those two were in and did really well,” Saker said.
It was the only game to start on Saturday, with the other four starting on Sunday due to Victorian Premier Cricket.
