The burn on crown land was controlled jointly by the Country Fire Authority and Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning.
“The burn went well, there was a mix of DELWP and CFA crews from Bethanga, Talgarno, Bonegilla and Old Tallangatta,” DELWP’s Upper Murray district manager Aaron Kennedy said.
“There has been a lot of grass growth and fuel build-up … the main intention of this burn was to reduce fuel loads within the township.”
Fire danger period restrictions came into force on Monday in the Alpine, Benalla, Wangaratta and Wodonga districts.
CFA District 24 operations manager Paul King said this is among the earliest starts for the fire danger period.
Fire restriction season means no-one can light a fire in the open without a permit or complying with certain requirements.
Anyone burning a fire without a permit faces prosecution.
