It emerged on Monday that Wangaratta Rovers have joined Yarrawonga in the race to sign the tough small forward.
Chapman is interested in joining the coaching ranks, but the travel factor could rule him out of any O and M offers.
The 33-year-old has a young family which he is unlikely to relocate.
But Chapman told The Border Mail that he would still consider a move to the O and M.
“Never say never, but I wouldn’t imagine it would happen,” he said.
“My brother lives in Yarrawonga now so there would be somewhere to stay.
“But it would be a big commitment.
“At the top of my head I’d say it would be too difficult.”
Chapman has been inundated with offers since retiring after 280 games with Geelong and Essendon.
The 2009 Norm Smith medallist has been linked to the Pigeons through former Cats teammate Tom Lonergan, while the Rovers have spoken to him about their vacant coaching position.
“I’m looking forward to coaching at a local level,” Chapman said.
“I want to get experience coaching my own football club.
“I think you learn a lot more that way.
“If I love coaching and I decide that’s what I want to do, then my sights will be on the AFL (in the future).”
