Trainer Allan Fitzgerald, based out of Wangaratta, dedicated the win to part owner Scott Jackson, who recently lost his battle with cancer.
“It was like it was meant to happen, the win was for him,” Fitzgerald said.
“He was a lovely bloke and came into the horse and no sooner did he become terribly sick.
“He passed away a week ago which was terribly sad for the stable.”
Written in Red was a $2.80 equal favourite with Final Table, with those two finishing one and two.
Wolfitdown rounded out the placings.
It was a successful day for local trainers, with the Sylvia Thompson-trained $2.60 equal favourite Gangstar’s Curse storming home in the third.
Damselle and Forty Love rounded out the top three.
And in face five, Albury trainer and Martin Stein had joy with Iceconi.
