Make up artist Lindy Hartnett said people were moving away from cheap masks and toys to be more realistic.
“More people want to be realistic these days,” she said.
“It’s Americanised but more people in Australia are starting to celebrate it.”
Ms Hartnett said she had greater creativity using make-up rather than paint.
“The make-up gives it an edge because you can be quite creative,” she said.
“More people are also using special effects.”
Model Lauren Price said girls usually didn’t budge at the opportunity to get dressed up.
