The change in our prime ministers came as a complete surprise and when you are well off shore, away from it all the impact is even greater. Interestingly not one political pundit got it right but as rear guard action they tipped turmoil in the Nationals but surprise, surprise this never did happen.
These so called gurus showed they regularly punch above their weight. Their major succor is opinion polls which sometimes are wide of the mark. Like it or not the winners from the Turnbull coup were the Nationals
The direct influence of unions in safeguarding workers has plunged as more and more people decide to ride alone in the workforce away from organisations whose integrity is being questioned.
This has not always been the case as it would be hard to mount an argument that the AWU has not made the lot of shearers and shed hands a better one. In some cases the sheds and conditions where sheep were expected to be shorn were deplorable and quite rightly they have been exposed by hard working conscientious union representatives. For unions to gain traction nationally this same approach would protect working conditions and aid profitable enterprise.
Oh yes what influence does Turnbull have? The ALP now has absolutely no chance of winning the next federal election. Well that is what the bookies say.
We all love the jokes about Volvo drivers but they may have the last laugh if the Swedish car manufacturer can perfect a kangaroo crash avoidance system. There are not many country drivers who have not had an expensive altercation with a skippy.
Figures show up to 20.000 kangaroos a year are killed by cars however you can bet the figure is much higher. Hopefully the technology can alert to wombats on roads as they are real car destroyers. All smart comments aside: lives are lost with collisions between cars and animals so this news is welcome.
