NORTH Albury coach Jason Akermanis has stepped up his fight for equalisation, saying the points system won’t work.

Akermanis’s comments come just a day after delisted GWS midfielder Sam Schulz knocked back offers from rival O and M clubs, including the Hoppers and Corowa-Rutherglen, to sign a three-year deal at Albury.
“How can anyone think this is a competition that has any fairness,” Akermanis said.
“You finish third, you’ve won a flag, basically.
“Albury is doing nothing wrong, (but) how long are they going to let this last, the Ovens and Murray, they’re sitting on their hands.
“If you take Albury out of the equation, you’d have such a good competition.”
The O and M is adopting AFL Victoria’s points system from next year, where players are given points from 6-1, depending on their history.
Each club must fit under the O and M cap of 42, which will reduce to 38 in 2017.
But Akermanis has a different system he believes would better fit the O and M.
He said instead of having to fit under the points cap, he said the worst performing clubs should be given more points to recruit with than the better performing clubs.
“What you need to do is restrict the amount of recruiting the top teams can do,” Akermanis said.
“Say Albury has five points to recruit with, Lavi has 7 and then Myrtleford has the ability to recruit and to be competitive.
“It will start to hurt the Alburys, because everyone has gone broke trying to match them.”
