Jocelyn Wilson and Alex Lord, who are studying for their Bachelor of Education degrees at the CSU Albury Campus, will join 14 of their peers from the Bathurst campus on a three week Rugby Union Sports Outreach program.
The program is sponsored by the Samoa Rugby Union, Samoa Ministry of Education and the NSW rugby union and involves teaching primary and secondary classes and running rugby union training clinics.
It aims to promote a greater appreciation and understanding of schooling in a different cultural setting for the student teachers.
Ms Wilson, 21 and in her second year with the Steamers, said she was looking forward to a great experience.
“It is run through CSU Global and I found out about at the beginning of the year, applied and was told in August that I had been successful,” she said.
“For Alex and I the common link is rugby union and we will be holding clinics for the children, going through the basics of the game.
“So far as the education side of things goes, we will be teaching various subjects.
“It is going to be fantastic teaching in a different culture, learning about a new culture and how it affects learning.
“And we will be able to give them a different perspective on how to do things they don’t know about, with many of the students coming from a lower economic demographic.”
