The 52-year-old Melbourne man had been travelling with a group of riders when he fell at 1pm on Sunday.
He had failed to negotiate a bend in the road and damaged his hip, and suffered a suspected broken bone.
He was taken to Wangaratta Hospital by ambulance.
Senior Constable Tony Finlaw said the rider had been unfamiliar with the area.
“The crash appears to have been caused by rider error,” he said.
