It wasn't just the $200 win which put a smile on Donna Dobby's face.
She said she backed the horse because the horse’s strapper Stephen Payne – brother of Michelle Payne – has down syndrome.
“It was a sentimental bet because my cousin has down syndrome,” she said.
“I think it is fantastic a woman won the Melbourne Cup too.
“I really wasn’t expecting the Prince of Penzance to win, I had backed Who Shot Thebarman.
“I'll go shout my friends a drink now. Winning should always be shared.”
The weather delivered at Corowa where races began under a clear and sunny sky.
A breeze cooled punters before clouds rolled in toward the end of the day.
Corowa Race Club secretary treasurer Sheridan Kay said there was lots of colour and flair at this year's races.
“It's great to walk out and see everyone buzzing,” she said.
“Marquee bookings increased and the track conditions held up well following the rain.”
