While Robinson pinpointed the former Test cricketer as the obvious dangerman, he said he wouldn’t be surprised if another CAW player stood up.
“Andrew McDonald is obviously a Test cricketer and plays in the Big Bash and is a key player, but Twenty20 is a tough one as often you can get the best player out and someone else will quickly put 30 runs on you,” Robinson said.
“Albury is a quality side and has performed well in the Konica Cup over the past few years so we will have to play very well.”
McDonald is playing Victorian Premier Cricket with Geelong before starting the Big Bash season with the Sydney Thunder next month.
While the Border Bullets have selected a powerful line-up to play on the small ground, Wagga also boasts plenty of firepower.
“It’s probably the best side we have put on the park for the last six years,” Robinson said.
“We have the pick of the bunch.
“Players know they may play half a dozen games in the format at the maximum and they don’t have too commit as much time as something like the O’Farrell Cup.
“We’re really happy with our squad.”
The Bullets’ top-order is expected to go on the attack from the outset with McDonald and Cade Brown leading the way.
As part of the new Regional Bash competition, teams are allowed to sign marquee players from higher competitions if they are originally from the area.
The winner will play at the SCG next month.
The match starts at 2pm.
The teams are:
CAW: C. White, C. Brown, A. McDonald, N. Morris, M. Armstrong, M. Jaensch, R. de Vries, Z. Simmonds, J. Craig, N. Brown, D. Cameron, D. Farrell, T. Ball, A. Popko.
Wagga: J. Robinson, J. Nicoll, M. Sykes, D. Bolton, J. Thompson, K. Robertson, J. Hindmarsh, S. Perry, J. Lawrence, J. Harper, R. Forsyth, D. Crane, B. Ambler, N. Cooke, N. Grant.
